Richard Carbray has over 35 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.  He began his career in community pharmacy working at McNeil’s Pharmacy in Cromwell, Connecticut and, then, Ferndale Drug in Kensington, Connecticut. From 1983-1985, he was a professional sales representative for Schering Laboratories. Prior to taking ownership of Apex, Richard held the role of vice president at Pelton’s Pharmacy and Home Health Center in Middletown, Connecticut for nearly 20 years.

Currently, Richard is owner of Apex Pharmacy, Home Care and Nutritional Center in Hamden, Connecticut, which he purchased in 2003. Apex provides traditional pharmacy services and compounding while also providing for the equipment needs of both consumer and institutional markets. Richard has been leading the company with a forward-looking vision, marked by measures such as banning tobacco sales more than a decade before companies such as CVS.

He has lectured at colleges throughout the state of Connecticut, including teaching as an adjunct instructor at the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy, where he received his Bachelor of Science in 1975. A past president of the UConn Alumni Association, Carbray is also a former president of the board of directors for the UConn Pharmacy Alumni Association and a former member of the University of Connecticut Alumni Association – Alumni Board of Directors. Mr. Carbray is a Commissioner of Pharmacy for the State of Connecticut and currently serves on the University of Connecticut Board of Trustees, the UConn Health Center Board of Directors, and the Connecticut Pharmacists Association Board.

Carbray has been active in professional and public affairs. His involvement in the community is extensive, serving on the Newington, Connecticut Town Council since 1997 and as its majority leader from 2001-2005. He is a past member of the Wethersfield Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Wethersfield Visiting Nurses Association, the Middletown Visiting Nurses DUR Committee and several other organizations. He is a past member of the Newington Democratic Town Committee.

Among the awards he has received are the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy, Distinguished Alumni award in 2004 and the University of Connecticut Alumni Association Service award in 2010.
